Do you know that not all plates can go in the oven? An oven-safe plate means it can safely go in the oven without chipping, cracking, or breaking and one good example is ceramic plates.
Can ceramic plates go in the oven? Yes, they can. They are usually heavy and can stand up to the heat of an oven very well.
Ceramic dishes aren’t the only oven-safe materials. Materials such as stainless steel, cast iron, and oven-safe glass can are oven safe.
When using an oven-safe glass, avoid subjecting it to temperature shocks such as placing it straight in a very hot oven or moving it from a hot oven to cold water.
CAN YOU PUT CERAMIC IN THE MICROWAVE?
Yes! You can put ceramic in the microwave. Ceramics such as porcelain and stoneware are very safe for microwaves, but you have to avoid putting ceramic plates with metallic edges in the microwave because it’s not safe.
Why is it not safe? It’s not safe because when metals are exposed to heat and waves present in the microwave, they can start to give tiny sparks. Those sparks can increase, get out of control and even lead to smoke.
So, when purchasing ceramic plates that are microwave safe, go for plates without metallic edges or finishes. Below are microwave-safe ceramic plates;

Oven plates cooking also means cooking dishes for the oven. These are plates or dishes that can safely go into the oven without cracking, chipping, or leaching toxic chemicals into your food.
You may ask what kind of foods can be cooked in an oven? If you own an oven you can prepare foods such as roast pork belly, lemon tart, baked chicken seekh, Margherita pizza, chocolate chip and almond cookies, lasagna, meat, beef, vegetables, etc.

IS THRESHOLD PORCELAIN OVEN SAFE?
No! Threshold porcelain dishes are not oven-safe, but they are microwave safe, dishwasher safe, and can be hand washed. Porcelain is thinner and lighter than stoneware bowls and plates. So, most porcelain dinnerware should not be placed in conventional ovens. However, some types of porcelain are made to be oven-proof and can be used safely to warm food.
Whenever you want to purchase porcelain dinnerware, look for the ones that are marked ovenproof or oven safe. If the packaging doesn’t state that they are oven-safe, look for an image on the bottom of your dinnerware.
If you see a picture of an oven, it means the bowl, plate, dinnerware, etc can be used in an oven. But if you don’t see any image indicating that it’s oven-safe, then it’s not oven-safe.
CAN YOU PUT GLASS PLATES IN THE OVEN?
In my introduction, I mentioned some materials that are oven safe and glass is one of them. Can you put glass plates in the oven? Yes, you can put glass plates in the oven. However, this only applies to oven-proof or oven-safe glasses and tempered glasses.
Oven safe plates were made from a material called borosilicate, but most manufacturers decided to stay away from it because borosilicate glassware breaks into sharp shards of glass and they are very dangerous.
Manufacturers now use soda-lime as the main material to produce oven-safe glasses. It is safer than borosilicate because when it drops, instead of breaking into sharp shard glass, it breaks into the large dull pieces- solving a major safety problem.

CAN IKEA PLATES GO IN THE OVEN?
Is Ikea plate oven-safe? Can IKEA plates go in the oven? Most IKEA plates, bowls, pans, and mixing bowls are not oven safe unless it is stated on the IKEA website.
Like the IKEA plate made of tempered glass; they are durable and extra resistant to impact, but they’re not oven safe. They are microwave safe and dishwasher safe.
How do you know an oven-safe dish? Before putting your plates or dishes into the oven, look for any special oven-safe symbol underneath. If you can’t find any oven-safe symbol on the dish, then it’s not oven-safe.
You can also go to the IKEA website and do a quick search about the product you want to purchase. If the IKEA product listing does not specifically say “oven-safe”, it means it’s not oven-safe.

STONEWARE PLATES OVEN SAFE?
Stoneware plates are very oven-safe, but you have to avoid extreme changes when using stoneware. Avoid moving the plate from the freezer or refrigerator directly into the oven.
Stoneware is made from stoneware clay that has been fired at a temperature between 2150 and 2330 degrees Fahrenheit.
It is dense pottery fired at high temperatures to make it resistant to liquids. Though made from clay, it is durable than other types of earthenware and pottery.
Stoneware is not the only oven safe. It is also microwave safe, freezer safe, and dishwasher safe. However, it’s important you confirm this information with the manufacture before use.
CAN I PUT A PLATE IN THE OVEN?
Yes, you can put a plate in the oven, but it has to be oven safe. Plates that can go in the oven are plates that are labeled oven safe.
Plate materials that are oven safe are cast iron, metal, glass, enamel steel, and ceramic. Do not put a plate that is not oven safe in an oven because if you do, it will break or crack.
Plate materials that are not oven-safe are plastic and melamine. If you put a plastic plate in an oven, no matter how low the temperature is, it will melt and make a mess on your hands.
Remember to always check for an oven-safe label or symbol whenever you purchase a product you want to put in the oven.

HOW CAN YOU TELL IF CERAMIC IS OVEN-SAFE?
It is very easy to tell if ceramic is oven safe. When you go out to shop for ceramic plates, look for bowls or plates that are marked ovenproof. You can do this by checking the packaging.
If it’s not stated there on the packing that the bowl or plate is oven safe, then you can look for an image on the bottom of the bowl.
WHAT TEMPERATURE DOES CERAMIC CRACK?
If ceramic is heated and then removed from the heat source, it is at risk of cracking. Ceramic can withstand and handle temperatures up to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit and can be very sensitive to a quick change in temperature.
ARE CERAMIC PLATES OVEN SAFE?
Yes, but not all ceramic plates can be used in the oven. If a ceramic plate is labeled oven safe, it can be safely placed in the oven without cracking or breaking.
Aside from ceramic, there are other materials that can be used in an oven. Glass, cast iron, stainless steel (as long as the handles are safe, they can be used in the oven), and stoneware are examples.
Before using your dinnerware in the oven, always check to see if it is oven safe.
DO CERAMIC PLATES CRACK IN THE OVEN?
Ceramic, like any other oven safe material, can withstand a specific temperature range.
As a result, if you heat your ceramic plate above 573 degrees Celsius, it will crack more easily.
Ceramic plates can crack as a result of thermal shock, so they should be used at low temperatures to avoid this.
Also, make sure to preheat your oven ahead of time and keep the ceramic plate warm in the oven. The gradual change in temperature greatly reduces the risk of breakage.
